Spring 2026 Fieldwork in the Kızılırmak Delta Conservation Area

With the onset of the spring season, a specialized research team has initiated an extensive field campaign within the Kızılırmak Delta Protected Area. The mission marks the start of the 2026 aquatic biodiversity monitoring cycle, a critical component in the management of one of the most ecologically significant wetland systems in the Black Sea Basin.
Operations began at dawn today as researchers deployed across the delta’s complex network of lagoons and marshes. The timing of the survey is strategic: the transition into spring triggers vital life-cycle events for numerous aquatic species, including spawning migrations and the emergence of larval populations.
The primary objectives of this monitoring phase include:
Biological Inventorying: Utilizing invasive and non-invasive sampling techniques to document the distribution of endemic and migratory aquatic fauna.
Physicochemical Analysis: Systematic monitoring of water quality parameters, including dissolved oxygen levels and nutrient concentrations, to assess the impact of seasonal runoff.
Habitat Integrity Mapping: Evaluating the health of the delta’s communities.
The Kızılırmak Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List site and a designated Ramsar Wetland, remains a cornerstone of Türkiye’s environmental heritage. The project team provides the empirical data necessary to navigate the challenges of climate change and habitat preservation by maintaining a consistent presence in the field.
