Prof. Dr. Coşkun Erüz Discussed on Climate Change and Mountain Meteorology: Avalanches and Extreme Events
A seminar titled “Climate Change and Mountain Meteorology: Avalanches and Extreme Events” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Coşkun Erüz, faculty member of the Department of Marine Sciences and Technology, at the Association for the Conservation of Natural and Historical Values.
Focusing on the meteorology of the Black Sea, climate change, and mountain meteorology, the seminar addressed increasing extreme weather events such as avalanches and their impacts.
Held on April 8, 2025, the seminar focused on the Eastern Black Sea region and was organized for members of the association and individuals interested in nature sports.
During the event, Prof. Dr. Erüz provided detailed insights into the growing frequency of extreme weather events in mountainous and other vulnerable areas—particularly the increased risk of avalanches—and their effects on natural landscapes, residential areas, and infrastructure. He also discussed how changes in meteorological dynamics due to climate change may pose significant risks at the local level.
